My kids are all grown up now, but this gave me so much insight into what what I experienced while they were growing up. Also, I hadn’t realized that female fives are rare. No wonder I’ve felt so “different” -it’s actually quite comforting to understand that.

Michelle!!! Dear best friend, I love you so much and you’ve taught this Type 3 in finding those little joys that you can lean in to. When I want to achieve achieve achieve and life/motherhood/anything slows me down, I now can see it with a different lens and smile about the chaos. It’s the great kind of chaos after all. ❤

Amanda! That's my bestie!!! So very proud of you, love!! Amanda has been so instrumental in introducing the enneagram to her friends and family, not only encouraging us to understand ourselves but actively using it in her interactions with all of us. She's such a gem of a human being, and I'm so glad you all get to meet her, too. Great episode overall!

In the past, I clung to my nine wing like a tightrope walker grasping their balancing pole. It provided an illusion of stability, a safety net as I navigated the precarious twists and turns of life. Outwardly, I was numb, accommodating, going through the motions - but inwardly, it was all a facade, a lie I told myself to maintain a fragile sense of sanity. I suppressed my true self, donning a mask of apathy to keep the peace. Yet this borrowed strength was merely a temporary reprieve, a season of self-deception that couldn't last. Eventually, the mask began to slip, the cracks in my persona becoming increasingly difficult to conceal. I knew, deep down, that this wasn't me - not the real, authentic version I longed to embrace. It was a difficult realization, acknowledging that the very mechanisms that once shielded me had become a prison of sorts, confining the parts of myself I had sacrificed for the sake of seeming unruffled. But it was a necessary step, a catalyst for growth and self-discovery.

As a woman I hate when we act like we are treated this way or that way because we are women. Maybe we aren't as good as making ourselves heard. You can't blame others or you will always be a victim.

Thank you, Beth for doing these sessions! I feel like I've been there right along with everyone learning and growing each of my enneagram types. I've studied the enneagram for the past 5 years and mistyped several times (more than I can admit). When these session videos started, I thought I was a type 7. But by the time it got to type 5, I realised I was a type 2. I'm glad I got there in time - Going through the guide sheets was quite the journey and I cried several times especially being in the midst of being taken for granted by my family. Thanks again for this wonderful series :)

When you interact with others for any length of time, you must be able to follow their line(s) of thought, which can be extremely tedious and logically torturous for a 5. Fives like to leave someone's presence with a better mind or a cleaner, more efficient thought process. For example, the worst job for a computer programmer that is a 5, would be fixing a "spaghetti code" program that was thrown together by a hacker, because they must trace and understand your train of thought. The fear would be to somehow come away from this with a picked up mental habit in inefficiency or sloppiness. Fives like being around a perceptive and/or wise person, with the hope of becoming sharper for the encounter. This is especially true for a 5 that has paid a dear price for their learning and betterment. The Bible says: "iron sharpens iron". A 5 has a goal, if not the utmost goal, to become the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I found this very helpful. I'm not Christian, but I am very drawn to the spiritual as it predates Christianity, so I am able to relate to the Divine. I do not need to be saved. I actually find it offensive. I deeply understand what you call Christ-consciousness and I love your positive approach. As a 4 I really do not like to be pigeon-holed. I love being a 4 and do not like all the negative focus that is often in these books and podcasts. I loved learning that I can be healthy in 2 because I really experience that. I know I am special as do those closest to me, but when I do fall into darkness I seem to be the only one who can't see my light. I find my part 1 to be way more prickly. I don't have a lot of experience with this gift of 1. To me, this is the archetype of the Divine Child and is found in all forms of mythology. I can learn from you without agreeing with the packaging. :)
